You probably know by now that the iPhone is headed to Verizon next month. What you may not know, however, is that Big Red is putting an end to their “New Every Two” and early upgrades program for both new and existing customers.
For those of you who are not familiar with the program, the “New Every Two” program offered a credit of between $30 – $100 towards a new phone every two years. Additionally, some customers were eligable for upgrades as early as 13 months into their 2-year contract, which meant that Verizon was primarily making their income off the cell phone plans.
This means that now a customer who is ready to sign a new 2-year deal that also used to get a $100 credit will have to pay the full $199.99 for an iPhone 4, compared to the $99 they would have paid previously. The move will ultimately put more of the cost of getting a new device on the customers, and force more customers who want to upgrade early to pay full retail price for a new device.
As a Verizon customer, I am a bit disappointed at the move. However, rather than take my word for it, we would love to hear from you! Leave us a comment below and let us know what you think of this move by Verizon.
