Samsung pushes throttle with EVO-series SSD and Facebook game [Review]

Samsung-EVO-840-1TB-SSD

Last year we accepted Samsung’s challenge that claimed anyone would be capable of installing a solid-state drive. Taking apart my HP laptop was a frightening prospect but proved to be quite simple. The folks at Samsung have since launched their new EVO-series of SSD’s and I, once again, got my hands on one. Having upgraded to a more powerful laptop, the prospect of taking a screwdriver to it wasn’t any less clammy-hand inducing. I did it, however, and can tell you that speed is the name of Samsung’s game.

I’ve included the specs, below, but will try to spare you the minutiae of every improvement. What I will tell you is that Samsung has improved speed and performance with the 840 series. Already having a solid-state drive installed, the EVO SSD netted less dramatic results than you’ll experience if coming from an HDD. I did notice a much snappier response-time when installing software, during boot-up, and especially during video editing.

Samsung has also launched their new time-killer on Facebook, “The Fastest Game on Earth!”. Testing your response-time qualifies you for a daily chance at winning a 250GB 840 EVO. They’re giving away 50 of these bad-boys so get to clicking. https://www.facebook.com/SamsungSSD/app_299938406836487

You’re not using a CRT monitor and you’re certainly not loading up floppy-drives anymore so there’s really no excuse to be using archaic HDD’s either. I’ve gone SSD and refuse to look back. If you’re contemplating doing the same, my mileage with Samsung has given me no reason to look elsewhere.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 poses for the camera

Galaxy Tab S 10.5_cover

Samsung shows no signs of stopping when it comes to pushing everything they come up with to the market, this is not exception.

We’ve recently posted some details regarding Samsung’s new tablet and this time around we bring you some pictures of said device. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 posed for some pictures and it looks really similar to Galaxy TabPRO/NotePRO 10.1 tablets they launched earlier this year, Samsung decided to go back to OLED displays, at least in this case. In comparison to Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO’s LCD panel this device is going to feature an AMOLED panel, 2560×1600 in resolution.

Judging by the pictures, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is going to have a textured back, similar to the one on Samsung Galaxy S5. Front side of the device also follows the same pattern as previous devices along with the hardware button which looks the same as the one on previous tablet devices. In other specifications the tablet will come with an octa-core Exynos 5420 CPU with four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores, usual array of sensors, IR blaster, Samsung’s Magazine UX and Android 4.4 KItKat. You can find more details in a linked posted above.

Samsung’s Galaxy S 5 with a 2560×1440 display and Snapdragon 805 could be released only in Korea

sm-s906s__korea_exclusive

It looks like the Galaxy S 5 with a eye popping 2560×1440 display will be exclusive to Korean carriers. Three versions of the Samsung device with the model number SM-G906 appeared and belong to SK Telecom (SM-G906S), KT (SM-G906K), and LG Uplus (SM-G906L). In addition to a gorgeous display, it will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor because it allows for displays with such resolutions to be managed. The interesting thing is that this LTE-A handset listed Android 4.4.3 as its operating system, a version not yet released or even announced.

Are you hoping this comes to your market?

Samsung axes Mobile Design lead in wake of Galaxy S5

Glam_Galaxy-S5_Black_01

Samsung have just shaken up the design department at the company by replacing the head of mobile design amongst criticism of the Galaxy S5 design.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was somewhat underwhelming and a ‘more of the same’ release by Samsung, much to the disappointment of consumers and in a market full of premium handsets, the Galaxy S5 stood out for its design.

The man responsible for the Galaxy S5 design, Chang Dong-hoon will be replaced by vice president for mobile design Lee Min-hyouk.

“The realignment will enable Chang to focus more on his role as head of the Design Strategy Team, the company’s corporate design center which is responsible for long-term design strategy across all of Samsung’s businesses, including Mobile Communications.”

Chang will continue to lead Samsung’s design center which overseas its overall design strategy, but perhaps the shakeup will mean we’ll see something different from Samsung for their Galaxy S6.
