Samsung launches new, Snapdragon 800 powered flip phone device at charity concert

Samsung and China Telecom revealed the latest flip phone the two companies are bringing to the Chinese market, the SCH-W2014. The dual-screen flip phone comes equipped with a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM to power Android 4.3 on the device. Samsung loads it up with 32GB of internal storage and the capability to expand that via microSD. The W2014 also has dual-SIM capability.

When the device was first spotted last month, the expected price was going to put it at around $700 USD. However, the latest reports suggest the W2014 will be selling for at least ¥10,000CNY (approximately $1,640 USD). China Telecom has not released an availability date and Samsung has not released information about other carriers or regions that may get the device, but it was spotted passing through the FCC, so there is a chance it may find its way to the U.S. market.

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini and Snapdragon 800-powered flip phone pass through FCC

Galaxy S 4 mini VerizonTwo Verizon Samsung devices appeared at FCC recently, indicating that a market launch is approaching. The first of these devices is the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini, which has also already passed through Bluetooth certification, leading us to believe that a launch, along with the AT&T and Sprint versions, will come very soon. The second device is the SM-W2014, an unnamed flip phone by Samsung  that SamMobile believes will only arrive in South Korea and China. It has high-end specs, including a Snapdragon 800 chip, a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Samsung flip phone spied with unnecessary Snapdragon 800 CPU

You know what you need in your flip phone? You need Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a quad-core Snapdragon processor.  At least that’s what Samsung thinks.

A newly discovered SM-W2014 has been spied online at China’s Tenaa website which features the aforementioned specs as well as a 13-megapixel rear camera. Toss in a front-facing 2-megapixel camera and 2GB RAM and you’ve got a pretty powerful experience, but in form factor that doesn’t make much sense. Like the Galaxy Golden and Hennessy of this past summer, the SM-2014 looks to offer a pair of displays: each is a 3.67-inch 800×480 pixel screen.

Don’t look for this outside of China or Korea as neither of its predecessors have made it to the U.S. and other markets. Don’t get us wrong, both are pretty big on their own.
