Amazon calls upon HTC for first foray into smartphones –report

Amazon and HTC are fast at work on a family of smartphones, according to a recent Financial Times report. From the oft-cited “sources familiar with the project” comes word that there are alleged to be three devices in the pipeline. One of the models happens to be further along than the others and is slated for a 2014 launch. As reporter Tim Bradshaw sees it, the relationship between Amazon and HTC is not unlike the one that Google and Asus had with the Nexus 7 tablet.

An Amazon smartphone rumor has been around for quite some time now, but things seem to be becoming a little more legitimized. Then again, who knows? One of the sources indicates that Amazon may dump one the near-finished handset.

HTC, not in any position to slip up, could really stand to benefit should an Amazon smartphone see mass adoption. On the other hand, they could be one mistake from falling off the map entirely. Let’s hope for HTC’s sake that Amazon proves to be better for them than Facebook has in the past.

Deals & Discounts: Moto X (AT&T) only $99 through Amazon

Amazon is currently offering the new Motorola flagship smartphone, the Moto X, for only $99.99 with a two-year service agreement through AT&T. We checked for new and existing users and found that both are eligible for that discounted price.

While the Moto X isn’t the most powerful device on the market it does have some killer UI features and swell software touches. If you’re not the type who cares about keeping up with the hardware Joneses then this is one of the first handsets we’d recommend.
