Motorola is taking its sweet time delivering the Android 4.0 goods to the Droid RAZR users. However, images of what’s purported to be an Ice Cream Sandwich build of Motorola’s custom, unnamed UI have appeared online.

A user on the Droidrzr.com forums posted some screenshots – without words or explanation – showing a slighty-tweaked version of Android 4.0.3 . It was the first and only post the user had ever shared on the site, so it’s either someone trolling the web or trying to share the information without being tracked. Could this really be Motorola’s upcoming UI for Android 4.0?

It’s tough to say. The images look straight forward and little has changed between the default Android 4.0 UI and Motorola’s take on the interface. Motorola’s software typically has more customizations in the launchers, widgets, and lockscreens, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. A few icons for standard apps have been changed, but the launcher doesn’t appear to have some of the features that Motorola included in the Gingerbread version. Maybe Moto decided to stick closer to the Holo theme of Android, but the company has in the past favored design choices that include more whites, grays, and silvers rather than the darker blacks and grays.

If this truly is what to expect from Motorola, and not just a test build or doctored set of screenshots, it will be a welcome departure from the norm. Take a look at the photos and cross your fingers if you own a Droid Razr. View the full gallery at the source below.

Add this to your list of rumored MWC 2012 devices: a Huawei 10-inch tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is reported to have an 8 MP rear facing camera with a flash, WiFi and 3G connectivity, and a microSD expansion slot.

Huawei has been hard at work lately releasing high end devices, including the Ascend P1 S. There have been multiple rumors that Huawei plans to unveil more devices, including their quad-core Ascend D Q and a 10-inch tablet at MWC. This begs the question on whether this 10-inch tablet will have a dual core or quad core CPU, to accompany the Ascend D Q. The 10-inch tablet appears to be a successor to the 7-inch MediaPad.

Some other things to expect from this tablet are a thin metal exterior and a dock connector at the base. It seems as though Huawei will soon be a big contender for high end devices.

This week is the time for rumors and leaks, as we’re coming up on MWC 2012 quickly. Pocket-lint received word from an unidentified source that ViewSonic will have a 7-inch tablet to release at MWC next week.

The ViewPad G70 will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4 GB of memory that can be expanded with the microSD slot. The resolution will be pretty high at 1024 x 600 pixels. There is no word on what processor it will have, but since it will have 1 GB of RAM, it will hopefully be a dual core processor. The specs are quite similar to the ViewPad E70 that was announced at CES, but the G70 will probably have a faster processor.

On top of the ViewScene interface that we’ve seen on previous tablets, this one will be “Google-certified”, which means it will have Google services and Android Market access. The G70 will have front and rear cameras, 3G connectivity, mini HDMI, Micro-USB and Mini-USB. While Pocket-lint’s source didn’t disclose a price, Costcentral.com has listed the ViewPad G70 for $311.99, with a MSRP of $349.00. All the info appears to lead to a mid range tablet. What do you think?

For those of you who bought a Playbook or were thinking about getting one and were miffed at the lack of exciting apps or the ability to send emails without having a Blackberry phone can now rejoice. The fabled Playbook 2.0 OS has finally been released with those features on board. Considering that it was supposed to be released next month seeing it earlier should help ease frustrations that the earlier OS builds caused. You are now able to access both work and personal email on the device and with help from a Universal Inbox, access those plus social network updates.

While RIM boasts 60,000 apps on App World they’ve added “a range” of Android apps that work on the tablet. There is no specific number but RIM hopes to bolster its own numbers by adding these apps. So if you’re the proud (even not-so-proud) owner of this device then look for the update and get your emails/Android apps on. If you were waiting to get one of these devices for these features, honestly, I’d just go get an Android tablet. The Transformer Prime would be a good choice. While it may be too little too late in the tablet game for RIM, at least it’s nice to see them add support for our favorite OS.

Mobile World Congress is edging closer and closer, and rumor has it that Intel is planning to show off their first mobile-based processors there. Apparently, they’re going with the name of Medfield, at least for the time being, to refer to their mobile processors. We already know that Motorola and Lenovo are on the list to get these chips, so we expect something on that in Barcelona next week. Word on the street also points to Atom-based processors, so there might be more than one avenue to follow.

It’s worth noting that currently, Intel’s mobile processors will only be able to handle 3G speeds, so unless they come up with a 4G chipset, they might be out of the game before they even get started. Intel reportedly plans to introduce basic chipsets first, and gradually release more powerful and advanced processors. Something about that tells me they won’t be very successful in a rapidly changing market like this one, but only time will tell.

Analyst Patrick Moorhead had this to say about Intel’s entrance into the smartphone market:

While Intel has a long way to go in proving themselves, they have the start they never had before at a time to take advantage of the mammoth growth in smartphones. Never count Intel out.

More on this as it develops. So what do you think about the 3G limitations of Intel’s first mobile processors? Anyone think Intel will rise to new heights in the smartphone market? Let us know in the comments!

News of Samsung’s new budget friendly and rugged “Rugby” is beginning to come to light. The device was first tipped by the folks over at BGR last month but little was known about it. Well, it looks like some specs are beginning to surface and here they are; model SGH-1847, WVGA display (480 x 800), class 10 HSPA capabilities, 1650 mAh battery, Android’s gingerbread 2.3.5 and 512 MB of RAM. Based on its exterior it’s obvious who Samsung and AT&T are targeting here, your typical outdoorsmen and your all things rugged variety. However, it’s going to be pretty difficult to shell out for a device like this when AT&T is sporting the $50 dual-core 1.5 GHz, 1 gig of RAM and 4-inch Pantech Burst. But hey, to each his own.

Essentially, the technology they’re trying to patent would use an Android phone as a transmitter of sort, and the user could give voice commands to Google TV through the phone. Voice commands are nothing new to Android, but they’ve been previously lacking in Google TV, at least on this level.

There’s also hints at GPS-based actions, such as turning on the TV when the user is within a quarter mile of their home, and setting it on a specified channel. We honestly can’t say we’re too surprised at this patent, as it’s been a highly requested feature for quite some time, and we assumed Google was smart enough to pick up on that. No word on whether the patent will be approved, but something tells us that if it is, we’ll see massive updates to Google TV devices fairly quickly.

So what do you think about this patent? Any Google TV users out there that can’t wait for this to become a reality? Sound off in the comments!

Bargain hunters rejoice as Verizon has just slashed the price of two of it’s high-end, 4G Android smartphones for a limited period. Big Red has dropped the price of both the HTC Rezound and LG Spectrum to $99 for any new contracts or contract renewals until 28th February.

Whether it’s the lightning quick dual-core processor of the Spectrum or the sonically spectacular Beats Audio of the Rezound that appeals, there’s never been a better time to inject a bit of 4G speed into your life. Retailing at a third of their original launch price, we feel these bargains are too good to miss.

Head on over to Verizon’s online store to find out more.

You’ve already seen some hefty benchmarks for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chip and we’ve already seen some of the mighty capabilities of the chip, so you want more, right? Qualcomm is more than ready to tease us even further. Get ready for this folks: the fine team at Anandtech managed to get their hands on a Qualcomm read more »

You’ve already seen some hefty benchmarks for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chip and we’ve already seen some of the mighty capabilities of the chip, so you want more, right? Qualcomm is more than ready to tease us even further. Get ready for this folks: the fine team at Anandtech managed to get their hands on a Qualcomm developer unit which is powered by the MSM8960 chip, which is dual-core and clocked at a not-too-shabby 1.5GHz. They ran the developer unit through a battery of tests and benchmarks and the results are nothing short of astonishing. Keep in mind these are results from a dual-core-based chip.

The first type of test was a standard Linpack multi-threaded test. As you can see, the developer device powered by the MSM8960 chip blew away the competition… and it wasn’t even close at a score of 218. The devices that came closest to the MSM8960-powered device was a Qualcomm MSM8660-powered developer device which was developed last year came in at a score of 90 and a Samsung Galaxy S II at a score of 84. Yes, you read that right— the MSM8960 developer device was rated over 120 points higher than both the Galaxy S II and the MSM8660-powered device.

In the Sunspider JavaScript test, you’ll note that it crushed the competition as well. The MSM8960-powered developer device had a total time of 1561ms, almost 500ms less than the DROID RAZR and 700ms less than the Apple iPhone 4S.

The oh-so familiar Vellamo scores were equally dominant, scoring a radical 2581. To put this into perspective, my phone (Motorola Atrix 4G) scored a 673 which is considered “solid” and the Galaxy Nexus scored a 1151.

This is the one time where it’s OK for you all to drool on the floor, I’m excited over this chip too. Expect the first round of smartphones using the MSM8960 chip to arrive in the coming months. Perhaps we’ll see a few introduced next week?
