Touiteur was recently asked to change it’s name because Twitter felt that some people might he uninformed enough to confuse an Android app with the official microblogging service. Rather than waste time fighting the request, Touiteur developer Level Up Studio sought suggestions from users for a name change before finally settling on one yesterday.
The Android app formerly known as Touiteur is now Plume. The new name is short, aviary-themed, and could be interpreted to have a half pun (if such a thing exists). Plume is the French word for feather, which is how people once penned the written word. Now Plume is how we communicate on Twitter.
Level Up Studio will begin working on making the name change official later today when a new version of the app is uploaded to the Market. Count on “a lot of optimizations and bug fixes” when it arrives, and get use to seeing “Via Plume” rather than “Via Touiteur.”
